What type of team are we? Empty
PostSubject: What type of team are we?   What type of team are we? I_icon_minitimeFri Sep 11, 2009 1:17 pm

So let's look back to PD's early days - why was it all started ?

Well we are the result of 2 groups joining together.
Me
and Nat always had a fascination with the subject of 'paranormal' and
wanted to look into it more. We started the group up with the intention
firstly of just meeting others with similar interests and hearing
theories and taking part in discussions. Maybe thrill-seeking did play
a part - we both wanted to experience 'something'. We were both very
sceptical and I think the only way we would ever have believed in
paranormal occurences was to have something happen to either of us.

The
other half had plenty experiences between them all. They were already
one step ahead when we met in that they were already trying to capture
'evidence' on film/photo. Tori had been keen to obtain some kind of
'proof' for the things that she regularly felt/saw and heard.

Right so what type of team is Paranormal Discovery ? Does it even matter ?

Do
we go to alleged haunted locations looking for 'ghosts' or do we go
with a more open mind looking for evidence of paranormal activity and
occurences which can't readily be explained by science?

If we don't actually go out looking for ghosts as such then I suppose we cannot be labelled as 'ghost hunters'.

So are we 'thrill seekers' then ?
Well,
to a certain degree I suppose all people interested in this subject
are. Plus nobody would do what we do if they didn't enjoy it - it is
time consuming, hard work and often very boring.
I bet 99.9 % of the
paranormal investigators out there started off as thrill seekers -
having one experience (if it didn't scare you) may lead you to see what
else can happen etc. I think that is human nature. I would be honest in
saying that we started out just to see what could happen and hopefully
catch something on film/audio (trying to use what knowledge we had to
do so).

Okay so we have all been down that road - some of the
sceptics in the team now need no further proof that paranormal activity
does indeed happen !! Bearing that in mind, what drives us to
investigate a place? Do we go to an alleged paranormally active
property to prove what is happening is really paranormal or to disprove
it ?
We have said all along that our main aim is to find 'evidence'
of paranormal activity and to make it free to the public. Our aim, then
, is surely to prove that paranormal phenomena happens.

Thrill
seeking does not do this (although it may make the individual more
likely to believe in paranormal occurences). That is why I do not think
of the team as a group of thrill seekers. As I said before we are
continually learning and trying out new approaches in trying to capture
evidence. We are all rational when it comes to our 'evidence' and
always try to find a rational explanation first for any noise/image
captured.

We have plenty of ideas and the team is continually
evolving. We have plans to carry out more experiments in a range of
subjects including temperature, EVP, infrasound and ESP ( a broad term,
I know, but we will be carrying out various experiments to test for
different forms of ESP)

The team as it stands now is barely recognisable as the team that started out.

So what type of team are we ? I'm still undecided on that one.
We
are not professional paranormal investigators as none of us have a
formal qualification in a related subject but we do try to conduct
ourselves in a professional manner. We have a code of conduct. We are
all dedicated to the team and try to learn as much as we can to make
the most of what we do. Maybe we don't need a label. Who does it matter
to ? Not me anyway. I think we are doing a good job !!

Nah, I don't think we need to pigeon-hole ourselves either. In the end, we investigate for our own interest and enjoyment and that should come first and foremost.
